The Unsexy Side of Resilience

What do you think of when you hear the word resilience? I feel a sense of ‘bouncing back’, ‘being strong’, ‘rising above’, ‘being capable and powerful’. These descriptions are positive and uplifting, however the path we travel to become more resilient can be one of darkness, suffering, confusion, struggle, hopelessness, and much more. As many paradigms and faiths suggest, finding the treasure deep in the cave requires much effort, surrender, discipline, and courage to make the journey.

“Real growth rarely buds in comfort; friction stirs the roots that help you flourish” ~Walter Jones

To find the gem in the essence of our heart, we must be willing to sit in liminal space. In Latin, the word ‘limin’ means a ‘threshold’. Liminality is the in between space that can be vast, uncertain, uncomfortable, fearful, anxiety ridden, heavy, complex, unclear, chaotic, full of anguish, etc.

Liminal space journeys can repeatedly bring us to our knees with circumstances such as death, divorce, disease, personal lifecycles, etc. It challenges the body, mind, and soul. Super sexy, right (oof!) and super humanely normal! Is this what we're really here to do? Yowzerz.

In other words, we must be willing to die in order to live! And how we live is how we die.

“Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final.” ~ Rilke

On the sexier side of things.…….

Resilience is also a sacred place full of unbirthed potential and potent heart medicine that can transform our lives. It’s the classic story of the caterpillar metamorphosizing into a beautiful butterfly so it can FLY. The struggle is real. No doubt, suffering changes us. If we let it, what happens to us becomes fuel for something new!

Love coexists with our innate human ability to simultaneously carry sorrow, death, grief, transitional angst, and ‘dis-ease’. We can balance these states while allowing vital life force energy to fill our cup with joy and inspiration to carry on and live a full life. Do you believe it?

We have the capacity to choose how to respond and to tend in every moment. Divine source holds us with the utmost care and love even when we have lost all hope and can’t feel it or see it. Sometimes we need support and guidance to help us Re:Member!

“Adversity can either weaken your will or awaken your wisdom, the choice rests in your hands”

~ Walter Jones

HOW? The Golden Question, isn’t it?

"May each obstacle become your heart medicine" ♥️
